The image is based on a model of a river lock from around 1890 for the construction of a lock along the Odra near Brzeg, which I saw in a historical exhibition about local river infrastructure at the Lubiąż Monastery. I found the object very compelling and wanted to make a drawing of it. This work is part of my doctoral thesis work which considers water management infrastructure and related abandoned structures as direct witnesses and record keepers of the severe flooding brought about by the ongoing climate crisis. This series is about climate grief, thresholds, tipping points, control and the lack-there-of.
